How are you going with your office space?
When sorting out your office space, there is an element of de-cluttering and an element of organising. It is important to distinguish the two. I recommend de-cluttering first as if you organise clutter, it is still that - clutter. It is just organised clutter and it can still impact upon you in the same way clutter does - only it's in disguise!
In saying that, office spaces do need organising. If we want to be efficient and productive while we're in our work space, having order makes it much easier to be so.
Today we are going to take a look at the drawers - let's clean them out and organise the contents.

I'm not suggesting you do all the drawers today. Of course if you feel to, don't hold back. But don't put pressure on yourself either. What is more important is that you do one and get an idea of what is possible.
Pick an easy one to start, or alternatively pick the one that is screaming out to you.
Throw out what is not needed, and begin sorting through the rest of the contents. Group things together, for example have the stationery organised in one drawer.
It is much easier to organise when the clutter is gone and you will be able to find the organisation that works best for you.
Cleaning out the drawers creates valuable office space. You might find now that some of what is on your desk can go in a drawer.

Some office organisation tips:
Keep things simple and make things easy for yourself. Set yourself up in a way where you are supported and where you can be productive.
- Put things back when finished using them. This sounds easy but in order to do this, things need to have a home so that you know where to put them. Labelling can be a great way to help with this, especially if you have had problems with organising your work space in the past or if you share an office.
- Keep the essentials on your desk and use desktop organisers and trays to organise what is on your desk. We covered this earlier in the course but you may want to revisit this now that you have created more space in other ways in the office.
- At the end of the day, straighten and tidy your desk. This way, each day you come into a clear space and can start afresh. Dealing with yesterdays un-dealt with things can put a real downer on the day and set you up for less productivity.
