Where is the Clutter?

Let's do a stock take of our clutter...

You can’t declutter if you don’t know where the clutter is. We actually always know where the clutter is, but it takes honesty.

Many of us have life “under control” - if that is at all possible!  But often there will be a one or two pockets that aren’t quite so orderly.

For some of us, there will be a multitude of pockets that just seem to be overflowing with no sense of order or organization whatsoever.

So how about we get out the magnifying glass and review a few areas of our lives?
·      An obvious one is the closet. What’s in your closet? A pile of clothes that will fit when you loose that extra weight?  Clothes that cost a small fortune but that don’t feel amazing when you put them on? Or clothes that you’ve had for so long that they just no longer inspire you and you don’t ever feel like wearing them even though you technically still like them?

·      What about your linen cupboard?  Do you even know what’s at the back of your linen cupboard?  How many sets of sheets do you really need? Are there ones that you don’t like and therefore never use? Or are you saving them for the guest bed, but then never use them on the guest bed as when you do have guests you want them to have nicer sheets? The towels….any ripped, shaggy, worn ones in there. We need a few old towels for when the kids have tummy bugs or the washing machine leaks, but we don’t need a whole shelf.

·      The pantry.  You might be surprised at how many cans of chickpeas you have in there once you start digging. And how many open bottles of the same thing have you got on the go?  And then there is the use by date…Unless you go in there, you’ll never know what lurks in the depths. The bonus is you might find you have so much food you can cut down on groceries this week. And you may just make that sago pudding you’ve been meaning to for over a year!

·      Dare we go there…..finances! Ouch? Do you know where your money goes or does it just come in and out with no sense of order and organization?  It might seem strange to think of decluttering your finances but if you really feel into it, our finances can be just as cluttered as our kitchen drawers. But because it’s not tangible, it’s not something we think to declutter.

All these pockets of clutter actually impact us. Try as we might to put them to the back of our minds, they are still there. We can feel their weight and their presence.  It takes time to go through them all, but the freedom, spaciousness and clarity that await, feel oh so good.
