What is really going on with clutter?

We can make de-cluttering into such a big deal. It commonly gets avoided and put in the too hard basket. It’s time consuming, it’s draining, it’s boring...

But have you ever stopped to consider that de-cluttering may not any of these things? Or that in fact it could be the exact opposite?
Picture

If your entire house needs to be de-cluttered then yes, you may have a big job on your hands. But a little bit each day makes a huge difference over time.  The turtle can win the race – with consistency the pace you go at is irrelevant. Not only may you discover it’s not a big deal but you may find it is something that you enjoy.

What do you come home to?

What do you come home to could more aptly be posed as “what do you leave behind?” After all, what we leave behind is what we return to.

I’m currently in Sydney for a family holiday and I’ve been pondering on how I left my home.

I’ve always been one to leave things complete before I go away. The house is often cleanest before I go away.
Picture
The thought of returning to a messy house, washing that needs to be done, undealt with work situations...all of this takes away from any holiday I might be having.

It’s not so much that I don’t want to do washing on my return, it’s that I don’t want to have to deal with the past and what I have moved on from. It feels like a regression.

Dealing with delay

Today I discovered, or re-discovered, something that I preach – the simplicity and joy that can be found in simply doing something.

My personal tax return has been on my list for a few weeks now. As time went on the weight of it got heavier and heavier. Today I committed to getting it done, I woke with the impulse to sit down and do it and did not allow myself to get distracted until it was complete.
Picture
What did I discover? That is was all quite simple and really did not take that long – far less than what I had built it up to be.

So what was this weight and where did it come from?

Are our homes really set in stone?

It may sound strange to talk about the evolution of our homes, yet whilst they are literally set in stone, are they really static?

Recently I was feeling agitated in my home. Nothing felt right anymore, even though last month it felt fine.
Picture
Over the past few weeks I have taken a deeper look at myself and how I operate in life. I realised how much I am in drive and that I have a constant push to be doing things. What came down on me like a tonne of bricks was feeling exhausted. If I am honest, the bricks didn’t come down on me, they were always there - I simply had been ignoring them.

The reason I share this is, as I have changed and dropped old habits (or am in the process of dropping them) it became clear that my house didn’t support these changes in me.

Opening up to Space

This week we have a guest blog from Yoga & Healing Esoteric Therapies

Our outer world, the environment we live in reflects our inner world.
We have been exploring of late what it feels like to create space in our physical environment ie. our home and/or office and how this affects how we feel in our body.

If we come back to “everything is energy, therefore everything is because of energy” (Serge Benhayon), then it is common sense that as we let go of physical possessions whether that be clothes, CD’s that we no longer listen to, books that just sit and gather dust, this physical discarding reflects a shift within ourselves and brings about a sense of lightness and ease in our body.

Simplicity in Relationships

We are all in multiple relationships with many people (yes, even when we are single or in a monogamous relationship). Relationship is not just a word reserved for those in an intimate relationship (although if we understand what true intimacy is, we also realise we’re in intimate relationships all over the place too).

We have relationships with our kids, our partners, our friends, our work colleagues, our neighbours, the person at the check out in the supermarket ...we’re in relationship with everyone.

But how are we in our relationships? How do we conduct ourselves?

The guilty hook

One of the most common things I hear when supporting others with their decluttering is that they can’t throw something out because someone gave it to them. It is irrelevant whether they like it or want it and what seems to take centre stage is the gift giver’s feelings.

Picture
But if we don’t want it, don’t use it and possibly don’t even like it (and maybe never even did), why on Earth does it have such a hold on us? How hard it it really to pick something up and get rid of it?

Well, it sounds simple but it can be super challenging. It is possible we do all of this to avoid guilt? It can be very easy to take the bait from the hook of guilt.

Can meditation really be this simple?

7/6/2016

I used to find meditation quite complicated. It took me a while to realise that the words meditation and complicated could go together. I had an image of what meditation was and it was not supposed to be complicated – my mind would be quiet and I would be in a state of bliss. But this was not my experience.

Meditation was a struggle. Trying to quiet the mind was impossible.
Picture
I would then give myself a hard time and tell myself I needed to try harder - it was all a bit too hard.

Then one day a friend introduced me to a gentle breath meditation and everything changed...

Those little piles

Going back and dealing with piles of things isn’t something we generally get excited about. Often it’s not something we find easy either.

Why is that? Surely, a pile of papers or clothes shouldn’t be that hard to deal with.Or is there more going on that meets the eye?

Let’s take a pile of clothes on the bedroom floor. How does it start?
Picture
If we can’t be bothered putting something away, often we’ll put it on the floor to put away later. The next morning, we still might not feel like tending to it. The following night, we’re tired we add more clothes and on it goes...the pile grows.

But let’s look a little deeper.

Is the garage really part of my house?

Let’s talk about the garage...

How do you feel about your garage and what sort of state it is in? Is it orderly and kept or somewhat the opposite? Is it a room of the house that quite possibly you wouldn’t even consider a room or that it is even part of the house?

There are some rooms in the house that have a tendency to get ignored - the garage can easily fall into this category.
Picture
Is the garage part of our home, or is it just where we park the car and store a few things?
